Parents Are Humans
Life is in Cycles.
Life is beautiful. It is full of cycles, beginning as soon as you were born; from infant to toddler, toddler to child, child to
preadolescent, Preadolescent to young adult, young adult to middle adult,
middle adult to old adult. At every stage, you make various decisions. The marital choice is also one that you make personally after accepting Jesus as your Lord. Which eventually leads you to greater responsibility through parenting.
The Job of Parenting
Parenting is one of the most tasking and
rewarding job of all time. Little wonder, many have resolved to a lonely
lifestyle due to the demands. Most of which have poured the
affection meant for a child on pets. Never being able to live life to the
fullest by being alone in the journey of life and altering the order of life.
Parenting Never Ends
The love, care, and selflessness cannot
be over-emphasized, it never ends. Parents spend themselves raising the next generation of people. They grow old, being a huge blessing to mankind. It is a great testimony to be young and
grows old to be able to testify of God’s goodness to the younger generation.
The Countless Roles of a Parent
The
aged are empowered to speak wisdom from their wealth of experience put together
with those handed over to them. Young adults and middle adults must take
responsibility for their old adults. These parents have spent their life raising
their children and making sure they become responsible adults. Playing countless
roles in your life as your nurse, cook, cleaner, comfort, teacher, driver,
helper, and the list is unending. Amazingly, the roles switch gradually as the
parents get into old age.
Your Responsibilities To Your Parents
Having given all to you, it honors you to pay them good for all they have done in your life. It is your duty as a child to take care of
your parents. These parents have spent both in cash and kind to give you the
life you now have and enjoy. It is also wise to share and enjoy that life with
them, now that they are old.
Old Age is Not a Disadvantage
Old age is one of the expected events
in life before physical death. Although not everyone lives into old age. But it
is my prayer that you and I live to old age if Jesus tarries. Studies have
shown that old age begins at age 65+. This is a time when the strength has been
spent and all-round support is mostly required. They need you to carry and help
them.
How To Help Your Parents
It is important to make your parents proud as their child. They tend to have a happier life. The quality of your life may impact them. Sometimes, old age is
accompanied by disease and sickness, which may affect their sight, hearing,
bones, sleep, or diets. There is power in the name of Jesus to heal every disease
and sickness if you will call on Him today. Jesus touched Peter’s mother in law,
and she recovered from the fever. This is the period when all they need is your
support, love, peace, sharing moments and memories, and being happy. When the
gray hair overtakes the head and it looks like they have become a shadow of themselves.
Amidst all of these, having them is such a huge blessing!
Do Not Despise Your Parents When They Are Old
Old age reminds us of the end of
human life, and the end of a thing matters most to God, as He is watching all
our actions, inaction, and words. Prov. 23:22 says; Listen to your father who
gave you life, and does not despise your mother when she is old. Listening is the first step towards obedience.
If your parents have trained you up to become all that you are today, it is necessary
and fitting to keep feasting from their wealth of knowledge of you that they
have and of this ever-changing world. Their advice is safe and harmless, it is
richer if they know Jesus, and your money can never be able to buy it.
Honoring Your Parents in the LORD
Whenever a child disobeys his parents
it is despising them. 1Tim.5:1 says do not rebuke an older man but encourage him as
you would a father, young men as brothers. When there are conflicting opinions,
we are instructed to appeal to them and not to push our opinion or views on them. They are humans and also want some love from you. Is it not befitting that these parents be honored and
cared for now even when they need you the most? If you have been honoring your
parents, be encouraged to keep doing so, and if not repent today, turn to them
no matter the offense that marred your relationship with your parents. Ask God to
forgive you and go back to your parents. Let God heal your heart.
My Sweet Mother’s Example
During my college days, my parents
agreed to have my grandma put up with them in the house because she was getting
old and needed help, and also took turns staying over at my auntie. Granny’s well being
was their goal. Visiting her health provider together and sharing the end of
her life with her children and grandchildren was so sweet. I remember vividly, she would not
go to sleep if anyone is still yet to get inside the house. She was so
caring. My mum showed me by example how to take care of the aged. Granny passed on
at 88 years to be with Lord.
Nursing Homes
Nursing homes have been a great
relief for busy adults having to take care of their old parents. This is also
good. But do not dump them there and go your way, only to pay the bills. The
amount does not match the love and affection they desire from you as their
child. The most important thing for them now is to plan a regular visit with them
at the nursing homes. Call them, send messages, send them their favorite stuff, these things keep the connection between you. Spend quality time together with your parents and take
along their grandchildren. This will be a foundation in the children as a sense
of responsibility for you as their parent.
Taking Care of the Seniors Against COVID 19
The word of the LORD to every senior
today is; Isaiah 46:4, I will be your God throughout your lifetime— until your
hair is white with age. I made you, and I will care for you. I will carry you
along and save you.
God’s promise will not fail now
because of the pandemic or any situation that may arise. It looks like you are
a target, but no, God will care for you. Even though you have tested positive
to the virus, keep believing and trusting God who never fails.
Keep The Seniors Safe
There is a call
to everyone to keep all seniors safe and protected from the virus by taking
necessary precautions, maintaining personal hygiene, staying hydrated, washing
hands frequently with soap and water, staying home, and keeping safe. Be encouraged
to do grocery pickups for yourself and the seniors to limit exposure to the
environment. COVID 19 is defeated in Jesus' name.
